Registration Open: Advanced Soil Health Training in Eastern Iowa

Roots to Results, an advanced soil health workshop program is accepting applications for agriculture professionals, watershed professionals, farmers, and crop advisors in Dubuque County. The year-long “Roots to Results” program includes four two-day sessions starting February 9-10, with only 35 spots available.

What You’ll Gain

Participants work directly with leading soil health experts through classroom instruction, field demonstrations, and hands-on farm visits across Dubuque County and Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.

  • Advanced soil health principles and management systems
  • Adaptive cover crop and nutrient management strategies
  • Transitioning from conventional to soil health-based cropping systems
  • Understanding soil biology, carbon, and water quality relationships
  • Practical tools for advising farmers and improving outcomes

Expert Instructors

The program features nationally recognized soil health leaders:

  • Barry Fisher – Retired USDA-NRCS Soil Health Team Leader with 39 years of experience
  • Hillary Olson – Iowa NRCS State Soil Health Specialist
  • Brian Dougherty – Regenerative Agriculture Consultant, Understanding Ag
  • Rick Bieber – Soil stewardship advocate and regenerative agriculture pioneer

Experienced farmers and guest experts will also lead discussions and share real-world insights throughout the sessions.

Registration Details

Session Dates: February 9-10, March 24-25, June 16-17, and September 22-23

Cost: $300, which includes meals (if you need cost assistance, IAWA offers farmer scholarships here, which may be extended to farmer/advisor pairs)

Locations: Dubuque Emergency Responder Training Facility, Swiss Valley Nature Center, and farms throughout the region
