Des Moines Bucs Celebrate Iowa’s Farmers With a 6-2 Win

Farmer Appreciation Night Hockey Game Ends #1 Green Bay’s 14-Game Winning Streak

On Saturday, January 3rd, IAWA partnered with Holganix and Versova to sponsor the Des Moines Buccaneers hockey team and put on a night celebrating the hard work and dedication of Iowa’s farmers. The second annual farmer appreciation night touted a packed house and an electric hockey game. Fans and farmers alike cheered on the Bucs to a 6-2 win over the Green Bay Gamblers, the winning powerhouse of the USHL.

With more than 425 farmers and their families attending, the game was a resounding success. After the Bucs’ victory, the crowd stuck around for a live jersey auction. The auction raised over $11,000, all of which will go directly to benefit water quality efforts in Iowa.

IAWA plans to continue the annual tradition next year, as well as expanding into more hockey teams to further appreciate the work Iowa’s farmers are doing to improve our water quality.
