DESCRIPTION:Hosted by University of Minnesota Extension and NDSU Extension\, the Soil Management Summit and DIRT Conference is 2-day event emphasizing farmer experience and applied science. \n  \nStraight from the fields\, learn how heavier\, colder soils aren’t necessarily the challenge they’re made out to be. Hear from long-time no-till\, reduced tillage\, and cover crop farmers as they share their experiences\, so you can be spared the same hard-learned lessons. \nThe summit features presentations and Q & A with researchers\, farmers and agricultural advisors\, information from sponsors\, and conversations with farmers experienced in different soil health practices.  \nCCAs participating in-person or online can earn up to 7 continuing education units (CEUs) selected from 22 sessions\, including 5 soil and water credits.

SUMMARY:Green Cover: SE Kansas Soil Health Conference
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. Jill Clapperton\nA globally recognized soil ecologist and founder of Rhizoterra Inc.\, Dr. Clapperton is renowned for her leadership in promoting nutrient-dense\, healthy soils\, and for her captivating ability to blend scientific insight with practical solutions. Having served as a rhizosphere ecologist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for 16 years\, she helped pioneer the use of cover crops\, no-till systems\, and integrated cropping strategies as tools for enhancing soil biota and soil structure. Her work has revealed how diverse rotations and regenerative practices can significantly increase nutrient density in food\, including dramatic boosts in key elements like zinc. Dr. Clapperton continues to inspire across the globe through Rhizoterra\, advancing soil health science and supporting farmers in measuring and improving nutrient-rich production systems GroundswellAcres U.S.A.® Magazine. \nFarmer-led panels\nThe conference will also feature farmer-led panels on topics such as… \n\nRegenerative Cropping Practices\nDiscover practical approaches to diverse rotations and cover crop integration.\nRegenerative Biological Integration\nExplore the role of soil biology—including microbes\, mycorrhizae\, and earthworms—in ecosystem resilience and fertility.\nRegenerative Livestock Production\nLearn how livestock systems can contribute to soil health and overall farm vitality.\nAgroforestry\nSee how integrating trees\, perennials\, and diversified systems can improve soil health\, water retention\, and long-term farm profitability.

SUMMARY:Layering Land Management: Combining In-Field and Edge-of-Field Practices for Water Quality and Soil Health
DESCRIPTION:Clark Porter is a landowner and farm manager for Porter Family Farms in Iowa’s Grundy and Tama counties\, alongside his mother Audrey and wife Sharon. Though he hires custom operators for fieldwork\, Clark plays an integral role in production and conservation efforts. These have included overseeing the transition to 100% no-till\, adding in cover crops and adopting several conservation practices\, including saturated buffers and enrolling land in the Conservation Reserve Program. \nCome see how Porter Family Farms manages nutrients\, soil health\, nitrate runoff\, no-till and cover crops. Attendees will learn about an experimental “saturated waterway” currently monitored by researchers at ISU and the University of Iowa. Farm landowners are encouraged to attend to explore how they can actively manage conservation on their land.
